Metal shelving units are great for solving storage problems. They can be used in so many situations and places. There are different styles and finishes on metal shelving units so they can also solve some decorating problems.
Many of the metal storage units have solid shelves. The sides are open because the shelves attach to four corner posts. These shelving units can be made of light steel or heavy duty steel.
The heavy duty steel shelving units are great for places like a garage or basement. They generally have a heavier load bearing weight which means the shelves won’t bow with too much weight. In garages and basements, things put on shelves like tools or boxes of items seldom used can be quite heavy. So using the heavy duty shelving units is a necessity.
Another feature of some of the heavy duty metal shelving unitsis that the steel of the frames is constructed in such a way that wood composite shelves lay across the shelf supports instead of a completely steel shelf. Due to the special construction of these units and the particle board shelves, some of them are rated to hold up to 450 lbs. per shelf. This style of shelving is available for home use but is also good for business and industrial use.
Lighter weight metal shelves are good in places like laundry rooms or anywhere the expected load weight will be minimal. All the metal shelving units are galvanized and painted with rustproof paints. So, even in the laundry room where wet items might come in contact with the shelves, you are protected from rust.
Colors of home shelving units range from gray to white. The white finished units can be used anywhere in the home where some extra shelving is needed. There are so many different sizes available with a varying number of shelves you can even find units that will fit inside a closet or pantry.
Chrome coated metal shelving units have become popular storage in the kitchen and even wooden shelving too. These units have slatted grate shelves rather than solid shelves. They’re excellent for storing things like pots and pans, kitchen appliances, etc… The chrome finish is nice and shiny which gives a fresh clean look to them.
Other metal shelvesinclude wrought iron styled shelving which looks great in any room. Often the iron shelves have lavish scroll work or designs that give them a special charm. The wrought iron pieces add to a comfy, old fashioned ambience to any room. Wrought iron is also available as “baker’s racks” which are wonderful additions to a kitchen.
You can purchase metal shelving unitsfor the wall also. These too are available in a variety of styles, sizes and finishes. There are wrought iron and chrome metal shelves for kitchens and some that are specially designed for bathrooms. Heavy duty wall shelves are available too. Some of these have a pegboard attached which is great if you’re hanging the unit in a garage or basement. The pegboard makes it easy to hang tools and other things.
Many of the metal shelving units are general purpose shelving that can be used just about anywhere you need a few extra shelves. Even a plain looking shelfadds to a room’s character because they help you organize and display various items. Yet, there are some very lovely metalshelves with special finishes and designs that are excellent accent pieces.
Some of the most popular brands on the market with solid reputations to back their products are; Organize It All, Rubbermaid, Whitmor, Honey-Can-Do.
Whether you’re looking for something special to fill a certain spot or just need some shelving to store and organize some items, there is a metal shelving unit just the rightsize and color for you. Remember, you’re going to feel much better once you get everything organized because chores go smoother when you can find what you’re looking for…
Recycle Your Metal
Some folks in Hotsprings, Montana have come up with a whole new fund raising idea. It’s not your typical bake sale, yard sale or silent auction. Nope! It’s a fund raiser that requires at least a set of wire cutters and a crowbar. The small town has a clinic in bad need of repair so they are rounding up donars for all their scrap metal. Things such as old washing machines, Junk cars. Old toasters. Radiators, appliances, silverware, satellite TV dishes, metal pipes, wiring, metal shelves. These items may appear to be junk but these folks are salvaging all the scrape metal for recycling and it’s paying off.
Recycling old metal is a way for Hotsprings to raise money without asking the resident to reach in their pocket and give cash.
